Acute Access Programme
The DentalXpress Acute Access Programme has a mission to provide logistical support to Primary Care Trusts in areas where little or no access to NHS dentistry currently exists. Commitment to a fixed practice in areas of greatest need is often impossible for a number of reasons.
Who are we supporting?
Elderly & Disabled Patients
Many elderly and disabled people can find it difficult to travel to their nearest fixed practice NHS surgery, which can often be some distance from their home. The DentalXpress mobile surgery cuts down the need to travel too far providing NHS dentistry more conveniently in a central location in the heart of the community, offering easy access for disabled and regular follow-up care for these vulnerable groups.
The Young
Many children, particularly from low income families do not receive regular dental care and many experience dental pain as a result of poor diet, poor oral hygiene and lack of health education. This same group frequently suffer health problems, learning difficulties, discomfort, eating problems and lack of self-esteem. Mobile NHS dentists working on school screening programmes are often able to address many of these problems.
A Social Enterprise
DentalXpress is a Social Enterprise with an ethical principle to deliver lasting social change. Because of this commitment it will reinvest 75% of any profits it makes delivering NHS dentistry back into expanding its service and is currently exploring ways it can expand its provision to serve schools, the armed forces, domiciliary care homes for the elderly, universities and the homeless
This British organisation is headed up by entrepreneur Toby Cobb who has assembled a panel of Clinical Directors which includes several well respected dentists including Stephen Norman and Vishnu Moodaley and its Non Executive Director and spokesperson is Amarjit Gill, a senior figure from the British Dental Association and voted the 3rd most influential dentist in the UK. It has forged links with Vanguard Healthcare which has considerable expertise in healthcare logistics and has developed the mobile dental practices which will be used by DentalXpress.
